"Quality Housing at Affordable Prices" In 1977, the Parkersburg Housing Authority received its first approved Annual Contributions Contract under the Section 8 Existing Housing Assistance Payment Program. Section 8 Rental Assistance is for families who wish to live in privately owned housing and receive rental subsidy. The offices of the Parkersburg Housing Authority's Section 8 Program are located in Parkersburg, WV and New Martinsville, WV. The Section 8 office in Parkersburg assists the clients and performs activities relative to the Section 8 Housing Programs in the Wood and Wirt County areas. The office in New Martinsville, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Section 8 Program in Wetzel, Tyler, Pleasants, Doddridge, Ritchie, and Marshall Counties. All of which are in the Parkersburg Housing Authority's legal jurisdiction. To be eligible for the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program you must be at 18 years of age and your income must meet the following guidelines:
Rent is generally based on 30% of the gross family income minus any allowable deductions. Deductions are, but not limited to, the following:
Once a family receives a Housing Voucher they are responsible for selecting their own rental units. Today, we provide approximately 1,450 families with rental assistance. Applications The Parkersburg office accepts pre-applications for Wood and Wirt counties Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm. This application places a family on the waiting list based upon the date and time it is submitted. When the applicants name reaches the top of the list and assistance is available he/she will need to complete a formal application. With this application the applicant will be required to provide originals and photocopies of the following information:
